Felix de la Concha's Fallingwater en Perspectiva
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy recently released the following press release regarding our exhibition of Felix de la Concha's Fallingwater paintings. A portion of all sales will be donated to Fallingwater.
Paintings Depicting Fallingwater on Exhibit at Concept Art Gallery
Pittsburgh, PA – November 21, 2011 – A collection of nearly 50 oil paintings by artist Félix de la Concha depicting Fallingwater will be exhibited and offered for sale at Concept Art Gallery from December 2, 2011 through January 15, 2012, with an opening reception December 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.
The exhibition, titled Fallingwater en Perspectiva, Félix de la Concha Paints Frank Lloyd Wright’s House on the Waterfall, is free and open to the public. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the paintings will be donated to Fallingwater.
“In these works Felix explores the nuances of Fallingwater from a number of perspectives including the building’s relationship to nature and time.” said Lynda Waggoner, Fallingwater’s director and vice president of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. “In a way they are meditations on the masterwork.”
The exhibition features paintings in a variety of sizes, showing different views of the interior and exterior of the house in all seasons and times of day. Some of the paintings focus on architectural details, others on objects from the building’s collections and many depict the building in its natural setting. In a series of seven large, vertical canvases, de la Concha, painting from a location at the base of the waterfall, captures the house over the course of a day from early morning until dusk.
Beginning in 2005, de la Concha visited Fallingwater a few weeks at a time for more than a year, in order to capture the house in every season.
Fallingwater en Perspectiva first opened at the Barn at Fallingwater gallery in the summer of 2007. Thanks to a grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation the exhibition traveled to the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg, Pa. and various museums and galleries in Oklahoma, Florida and Missouri. Concept Art Gallery is located at 103 S. Braddock Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Regent Square neighborhood.
De la Concha was born in Leon, Spain, in 1962. He studied at the Facultad de Bellas Artes in Madrid. In 1989, he was awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome at the Academia de Bellas Artes. He has had solo exhibitions in the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh and The Frick Art Center. His monumental display, One a Day; 365 Views of the Cathedral of Learning is on permanent display at the Old Masonic Temple in Pittsburgh and his The Last Supper painting is permanently installed at Pittsburgh’s David L. Lawrence Convention Center. His work is included in permanent collections around the world including the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, Columbus Museum of Art, Dartmouth Library and Teatro Real de Madrid.

Interesting article on appraisals in the NYT
Ann Carrns wrote a very interesting article about "The Specialized Art of the Appraisal" in the New York Times this week. It illustrates how important appraisals can be to collectors in terms of protecting and valuing their collections.
