Selden I. Davis
Meet the Artist
Selden I. Davis is an American photographer born in 1904. He was a part of the country’s oldest operating Pictorialist group during the 1940s, The Photographic Section of the Academy of Science and Art of Pittsburgh, which roots itself as early as 1885. Working for Pittsburgh’s Stanley Warner Theaters, Davis began to shed light on the post war industrialism of Pittsburgh. He exhibited in the Annual Pittsburgh Salon of Photographic Art, which showcased his work in 1940. His photograph titled Pittsburghesque, is thought to be one of the most important images made of Pittsburgh.
