Peter Doig is a Scottish Contemporary Artist born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1959. He studied at the Wimbledon School of Art, St. Martin’s School of Art, and finally Chelsea School of Art in 1979 where he received his MA. Doig won first place at the John Moores Exhibition in 1993 with his painting Blotter, and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1994. He served as Trustee of the Tate Gallery from 1995-2000, and in 2002 he became a professor at the Fine Arts Academy is Dusseldorf, Germany. In 2007 his painting, White Canoe was auctioned and sold at Sotheby’s for $11.3 million dollars, a record at the time for any living European Artist.
