Robert Crumb

Robert Crumb is an American illustrator born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1943. He found work with American Greetings Corporation as a color separator and was soon promoted to the Hi-Brow Department, drawing and designing greeting cards in 1962. During the 1960s, Crumb began working on the infamous Zap Comix, where the creation of some of his most famous characters such as Fritz the Cat and Mr. Natural, arose. Crumb also produced and edited the notorious “Weirdo” comic magazine starting in 1981, working exclusively on issues #1-#9 until he later handed over the business to Peter Bagge to solely focus on his own illustrative pursuits. Crumb is considered the father of underground comics, creating controversial social satires that stereotyped minorities and over-sexualized women.
